The Argentina international could be set for a move back to Italy with Inter Milan according to reports, after spending two years at Tottenham.
Rumours surrounding Tottenham star Erik Lamela's future have ramped up over the last few days, with reports from the likes of Independent indicating the Argentine could well be set for a move to Inter Milan before the end of the transfer window.
According to the the report, Spurs and Inter officials met yesterday to discuss the transfer of the player, though it is also stated that the two clubs were a long way apart in agreeing a transfer fee, with the North London club holding out for £20 million if they are to consider a deal.
The Independent also say that a permanent transfer is the preference of the selling club, and that approaches from Milan, Juventus and Porto fell away because loan bids were all that were incoming.
It is unsurprising that the interest in the 23-year-old has been chiefly coming from Serie A sides, after he hugely impressed during a two-year stint with Roma that saw Lamela score 21 goals in 67 matches.
It seemed to announce the Argentina international as a genuine star in the making, helping convince Tottenham to bank on the winger to replace Welshman Gareth Bale when he was sold to Real Madrid in 2013.
The Londoners paid big money for Lamela that summer, but looking at his statistics at Spurs, 6 goals in a similar number of games (66) as he managed at Roma, and it is clear to see he hasn't matched expectations, even if the winger did assist 10 times last season, the most at White Hart Lane.
