Gary Lineker reacts on Twitter to Wayne Rooney netting a hat-trick

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is back on form.

Former England striker Gary Lineker was in reflective mood as he saw Wayne Rooney blitz Brugge with a hat-trick.

Manchester United dismantled the Belgian side with ease to qualify for the Champions League group stages.

Rooney's goals were the first of his season, easing criticism which had mounted. He had gone four games without a goal, a costly statistic at the weekend as United limped to a 0-0 home draw with Newcastle.

Match of the Day host Lineker took to Twitter to reflect on how quickly a striker can come back into form.

Rio Ferdinand was also impressed, praising the first goal, and particularly the assist from new signing Memphis Depay.

Rooney's goals were the best piece of news possible from an individual player's standpoint, as their lack of depth up front means a reliance on him to find form.

It will mean nothing if he draws a blank again at the weekend, when they face Swansea City - a side who beat them home and away last season, but the club captain hitting his stride is a considerable boost ahead of the fixture.
