Darren O'Dea criticises much-talked about Celtic star Virgil van Dijk

Former Celtic ace criticised Virgil van Dijk after the side conceded the first goal in a 2-0 loss to Malmo.

Celtic face another season without Champions League football after a 2-0 loss to Malmo.

The side never really got going in the away leg, despite having a 3-2 lead.

Former West Brom striker Marcus Rosenberg scored Malmo's first goal, and former Celtic defender Darren O'Dea said he held Virgil van Dijk responsible.

Having watch it twice, O'Dea commented via Twitter to suggest Van Dijk was too easily manhandled by the Swedes, and did not show enough physical presence to dominate

The match was one in which Van Dijk really would have wanted to impress, regardless of the result, with question marks hanging over his own future.

He has been linked with a move away from the club, with The Sun reporting that he is eyeing a move to Southampton.

Sadly for Celtic the rumours will not go away, and a season without Champions League football is unlikely to convince him to stay - even if he is accountable for his own performances over the two legs in which the club failed to earn their place in the group stages.
