Louis van Gaal says Marouane Fellaini is set for a changed role for Manchester United this coming season.
He told a press conference, with quotes relayed by the club's official twitter feed, that Fellaini would be deployed more as a striker as a midfielder.
This is due to an imbalance in United's squad, with the Red Devils now overloaded with midfield options and low on strikers - a real change to Sir Ale Ferguson's final season to the club where the opposite was the case.
Van Gaal on Fellaini: "He can play as a no.6 or no.8 but this year he'll be more a no.9 or no.10 as we have players in the other positions."— Manchester United (@ManUtd) August 25, 2015
Introducing Manchester United's new striker...
It's safe to say Marouane Fellaini was not in anybody's mind when Louis van Gaal was discussing talking with a mystery striker earlier this summer.
It is hoped surely that Fellaini would be only an alternative option up front to be used late in games, rather than a starter.
The Red Devils are low on back-up behind Wayne Rooney, and while finally they have an embarrassment of riches in midfield, and Fellaini may stand a better chance of getting a game up top - United will fall short this season if they believe the Belgian is a true replacement for signing a striker.
