Video: Suarez strike for Barcelona ranked only third best goal in first weekend of La Liga

FC Barcelona

The Uruguay international netted a crucial winner for Barcelona against Athletic Bilbao, but Sky Sports had seen better.

Luis Suarez’s wonderfully taken volley for Barcelona against Athletic Bilbao was only the third best goal in the opening weekend of La Liga.

That is according to a new countdown from Sky Sports, which saw the Uruguayan’s fine finish put behind two equally impressive free-kicks scored elsewhere in Spain.

Levante midfielder Verza was second in the countdown, following his fine curling dead ball effort against Celta Vigo.

But that was still some way off Espanyol midfielder Salva Sevilla’s precise, near-perfect free-kick against Getafe.

Elsewhere on the list, Villarreal new boy and one time Tottenham Hotspur flop Roberto Soldado was ranked fourth following his debut effort for the Yellow Submarine.

Celta Vigo winger Fabián Orellana rounded things off nicely, with a precise finish against Levante.

It came as part of a largely dour weekend in La Liga, with only 12 goals scored in the Spanish top-flight.

For our money, however, Suarez’s goal still takes some beating given the pressure of the situation and quality of the finish itself.
