Shay Given leads the tributes to Arsenal star Petr Cech following his amazing display

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech pulled off a number of top saves as his side drew 0-0 with Liverpool in the Premier League on Monday.

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech pulled off two absolutely outstanding saves among a number of other stops to help his side keep a clean sheet in the 0-0 draw with Liverpool.

The Gunners have often been criticised for their lack of having a top ‘keeper, therefore the club’s decision to sign the Premier League champion from Chelsea was widely applauded in the media.

Ahead of his move to North London, Chelsea skipper John Terry claimed that his former teammate will save Arsene Wenger’s side 12-15 points a season, according to quotes published by ESPN.

And in spite of a somewhat dodgy start against West Ham United, Cech’s performance against the Reds illustrated exactly why Terry rates him so highly and why his signing was such a big step for Arsenal.

In a first half littered with astray passes, Cech bailed out the hosts with five stops including two potential 'Save of the Season' contenders to deny Christian Benteke and later Philippe Coutinho.

The 33-year-old made another three saves in the second half, but it was those two astonishing moments in opening 45 minutes which caused somewhat of a frenzy on social media site Twitter.

Firstly, a Roberto Firmino cross found Benteke with a tap-in from six yards out, but Cech managed to sprawl across his line and anticipate the shot, somehow tipping it round the post.

If that wasn’t impressive enough, shortly after he managed to get his fingertips to a belting Coutinho curler which was destined for the corner, instead crashing off the post and away to safety.

While visiting boss Brendan Rodgers was left with his head in his hands, Cech became the subject of widespread praise with Shay Given among others reacting on Twitter.
