Jermaine Jenas upset with treatment of Tottenham Hotspur winger Aaron Lennon

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas has criticised the treatment of Aaron Lennon by the club.

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas has told Yahoo Sports that he is disappointed at the situation former teammate Aaron Lennon finds himself in at the club.

Lennon has not been named in any of Tottenham's squad this season, and The Mirror reported earlier this summer that he has been relegated to train with the under-21 side.

The winger would have been due for a testimonial at the end of this campaign, and while he looks destined to leave the club this transfer window, Jenas argues Tottenham are doing him absolutely no favours.

He said: "A good friend of mine at Spurs now, Aaron Lennon, has been cast away into the Under-21s, and he knows Tottenham always do most of their transfer business on the last day.

"He has missed a whole pre-season and training at a top competitive level with first-team players, but if he does manage to get a move then people will expect him to hit the ground running. It's not right."

Lennon was on loan at Everton last season, but the Toffees' potential interest in bringing him back appears to have diminished for now.

The Mirror reported earlier this summer Lennon was prepared to hold out until deadline day in order to secure a permanent move to Everton, with the paper claiming Spurs were demanding £8 million for the former England international with just one year on his contract yet to run.
