Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has taken to social media to comment on Jordan Rossiter’s appearance for the Reds against Arsenal on Monday evening, along with his hope that Jon Flanagan soon returns to the first-team fold.
Rossiter came off the bench for the last 14 minutes against Arsene Wenger’s side, the 18-year-old making just his second senior appearances after impressing in last season’s Capital One Cup clash against Middlesbrough.
Big things are expected of the midfielder although some are surprised that he has made the step up ahead of current under-21 captain Cameron Brannagan, but Carragher was pleased to see Rossiter in action…and now hopes another Liverpool-born lad soon gets back into Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Writing on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon, Carragher said, “Great to see Brendan give him (Rossiter) a chance in such a big game; just need the other scouser back now Flanno!”
Flanagan has made 42 appearances for Liverpool’s first-team but he missed the whole of last season through injury, and when you consider how impressive he had been for the club prior to that, his return would be a huge boost for Rodgers despite the recent arrival of Joe Gomez and Nathaniel Clyne.
