Gabruiel Paulista had a big responsibility with Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny out for Arsenal.
Calum Chambers will have been relieved to have helped Arsenal see out a clean sheet against Liverpool.
The centre-back was a stand-in along with Gabriel Paulista for the injured duo of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker, late withdrawals from the squad.
Chambers looked particularly shaky in the first half of the match, as Arsenal were put under real pressure from Liverpool, and saved by a combination of goalkeeper Petr Cech and the woodwork.
It was the first competitive game Chambers had played alongside Cech, while communication issues with Gabriel also appeared an issue.
An improved second half display from Arsenal all round helped relax the pressure on the centre-backs, and Chambers will be pleased with the end result.
Chambers was signed from Southampton a year ago, and faded after a bright start to his debut season.
Against Liverpool he completed 81 per cent of his passes, won six aerial duels, and made 11 clearances - more than anybody in the Arsenal side.
Despite the relatively impressive statistics, to the eye Chambers looked nervous, and was maligned by fans on social media who were even more worried watching him.
Here is a look at the reaction to his display...
