Thauvin made his Newcastle debut over the weekend against Manchester United.
Thauvin made a short cameo for the Magpies against Manchester United at the weekend, and Aleksandar Mitrovic has told the Chronicle that he believes he will become a valuable player for the side when fully up to scratch.
Mitrovic said: “He did really well on his debut. He was fresh and he made a difference. He made the [opposition] defenders feel tired. I think he’s a really good player, his left leg is really good and he can be really important for us. I hope he will be in the team for the next game.”
Thauvin only recently signed for the Tyneside club, which is why he started on the bench, but the French winger had the greatest chance of the game to score a winner.
Breaking away on a counter attack, the 22-year-old winger was inches away from poking home a ball played across the box, which would have handed the Magpies three points.
He is expected to start in the League Cup this evening, as Steve McClaren’s side take on Northampton Town, and it will give the youngster a chance to fully get up to scratch and start working properly with his teammates.
Thauvin’s signing was considered something of a coup by the majority of football fans, as he is well regarded as an exceptionally talented player. However, doubts about his consistency and mentality have dogged his career, and McClaren will need to ensure he coaches the player properly to get the best out of him.
Thauvin could turn out to be a fantastic attacking partner for Mitrovic, with the Serbian striker proving his ability as a lone forward already, and the duo could aid each other in performing better.
However, it will take time for the Frenchman to truly hit top form with the Magpies, but it would be good to see him start on that path this evening.
