Godfred Donsah is set to sign for Italian side Bologna, his agent has confirmed to Tuttomercatoweb.
He was a bright spark in the Cagliari squad which was relegated to Serie B last season, with his breakthrough performances attracting interest.
Premier League sides were among those credited, with The Metro reporting earlier this month that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho had sent a delegation to Italy to discuss a deal to sign the central midfielder.
Italian website Calciomercato claimed just last week that Tottenham Hotspur were showing an interest in the 19-year-old.
Donsah's agent Arthur Oliver has confirmed the move to Bologna, and indicated that staying in Italy was the plan all along.
He said: "He is happy, he chose Bologna for having the chance to play and to be in Serie A was his goal.
"He is 'young and should receive priority to time to play and increase his experience."
Donsah is reported by Tuttomercatoweb to be undergoing a medical, with the confirmation of the move imminent.
Bologna were recently promoted back to Serie A, losing their first game of the new season 2-1 to Lazio at the weekend.
There is every chance he could earn a move to the Premier League in the future, but with regard to missing out on a move to Chelsea in particular, getting playing time at Bologna is a better move for him at this point in his career.
