Leicester City are in talks to sign FC Copenhagen's Ghana international Daniel Amartey, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
The Foxes have been chasing Amartey all summer and are understood to have had a €6 million (£4.41m) bid turned down by Copenhagen earlier this month.
Foxes boss Claudio Ranieri is keen on bringing in Amartey as the 20-year-old is equally adept at playing in defence as well as in midfield.
Amartey has impressed for club and country over the last 12 months and his performances have not gone unnoticed among clubs across Europe.
French giants Marseille have expressed an interest in Amartey, but Leicester are thought to be leading the chase for the African.
Amartey is thought to favour a move to the Premier League over France, putting Leicester in pole position to secure his signature should they agree a fee with Copenhagen.
Leicester have already brought in N'Golo Kante from Caen and Gokhan Inler this summer to bolster their midfield options, and they could soon be joined by Amartey if talks with Copenhagen go well.
