Inter Milan have reportedly contacted Tottenham over a deal to sign Erik Lamela.
Initially billed as the replacement for Gareth Bale at White Hart Lane, Lamela has been a major disappointment for Spurs, scoring just six goals for the club.
With a slow start to the new season, manager Mauricio Pochettino has been trying to find the right role for Lamela, even playing him up front for a period against Stoke City - but ultimately to no avail as Lamela continues to struggle in Italian football.
A move back to Italy may be best for Lamela, and Sky Italia's Gianluca Di Marzio believes that Inter Milan have been in talks with Tottenham over a deal to sign the Argentine international.
A deal of €6m (£4.4m) for a season-long loan deal and a permanent option of €14m (£10.3m) has reportedly been agreed in principle, but more talks are set for Tuesday as the parties look to thrash out a deal.
Few Tottenham fans would be glad to see Lamela go, and the funds may help manager Pochettino bring in more new signings, with just over a week to go until the transfer deadline.
After two poor seasons in England, it may now be time for Lamela to consider leaving, and it appears that Tottenham are open to a deal, if the reports from Italy are correct.
