Fulham have agreed a deal to sign Cardiff City goalkeeper Joe Lewis on a season-long loan, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
The Cottagers have made a move for Murphy after seeing their first-choice keeper Marcus Bettinelli ruled out of action for several months with a knee injury.
Fulham boss Kit Symons confirmed after the draw with Huddersfield Town at the weekend he was hoping to sign a goalkeeper to replace the injured Bettinelli.
"We are looking to bring in a goalkeeper on a short-term loan deal," said Symons, according to Sky Sports. "I have decided who that is and it is close to happening, so that will be a bit of good news.
"Marcus has damaged two ligaments and we are still waiting on surgeon advice on what the procedure is going to be. But he is going to be out for a good few months no matter what."
Lewis is well down the pecking order at the Cardiff City Stadium and he spent last season out on loan at Blackpool.
Bluebirds boss Russell Slade is happy to loan out Lewis again as he does not figure in his first-team plans.
The Cottagers are currently 21st in the Championship table with two points from four matches, while Cardiff are seventh in the league standings at the moment, having picked up six points from four games.
