According to a report from Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Everton are in pole position to sign Juan Iturbe from AS Roma with the Serie A side’s director of football Walter Sabatini currently in England discussing a possible switch.
The story then takes a twist, with Gazzetta dello Sport claiming Roma are far keener to sell Gervinho to Everton than the tricky Argentine.
However, it is Iturbe that both West Ham and Everton are allegedly keen on with Roberto Martinez’s side willing to pay £13.2million for the player and the Hammers said to value him at £11million.
Considering Iturbe’s talent and the fact that he has a contract in Rome until the summer of 2019, it is likely to take far more than that to tempt Sabatini into business.
But it is interesting that this close to the end of the transfer window the two Premier League clubs are seemingly fighting it out to sign a player who could go on to great things in the game.
Iturbe may have only scored four goals and provided four assists last season but he is still young and a move to the Premier League could be the making of him, although it is being claimed that despite the interest, the player has no desire to leave Italy at this stage of his career.
