Report: Everton identify Brazilian ace Bernard as potential Yarmolenko alternative

Everton have been linked with a move for Bernard.

According to a report in the Liverpool Echo, Everton have identified Shakhtar Donetsk attacker Bernard as an alternative to Andriy Yarmolenko after cooling their interest in the Ukrainian winger.

The Toffees were said to be closing in on a move Yarmolenko, with a report in the Mirror suggesting private talks were hold over a £15 million deal.

However, such talk has yet to be confirmed or denied by the club and it now appears other targets are being identified as a result of Dynamo Kiev’s tough stance over their popular winger.

As reported by the Liverpool Echo, fellow Ukraine-based star Bernard has caught the club’s attention and could become the subject of a bid ahead of the upcoming transfer window deadline.

What would Bernard offer Everton?

The Toffees have an abundance of attacking ability through the middle, but question marks remain over their potential to cause damage from wide areas as they lack genuine width.

Bernard, 22, is very much a diminutive winger who is renowned in Brazil for his trickery, pace and excellent energy levels as he very much combined his flamboyant roots with a typical European style.

After an excellent period in Brazil with Atletico Mineiro including a Copa Libertadores victory, he made a big-money move to Shakhtar in 2013 and later consolidated his place in Brazil’s national team.

He is versatile, has big-game experience despite his young age and under boss Roberto Martinez, would be given plenty of licence at Everton to roam free and assist striker Romelu Lukaku.
