French clubs St Etienne and Nantes are reportedly looking at Newcastle duo Gabriel Obertan and Yoan Gouffran.

According to the Daily Mirror, French sides St Etienne and Nantes are both eyeing moves for Newcastle United duo Gabriel Obertan and Yoan Gouffran.

Obertan has already featured in each of the club's opening Premier League games, emerging as the club's joint-most creative player. He has fashioned three key passes - including one assist - while completing 87% of his total attempted passes.

However, despite his involvement, the signing of fellow Frenchman Florian Thauvin from Marseille means he faces the prospect of significantly fewer first-team opportunities.

The Mirror suggest that the rapid development of 22-year-old Spanish forward Ayoze Perez and England Under-20 winger Rolando Aarons will harm the player's chances of maintaining his current role.

Meanwhile, 29-year-old Gouffran has already been told he has no future with Newcastle as boss McClaren reshapes his squad. He is yet to feature for the Magpies this season, having appeared on 31 occasions - scoring two goals - for the club last term.

Newcastle fans may well Gouffran's prospective departure, with the forward being heavily criticised for his form at St James' Park over the past few months.
