Brendan Rodgers gives Jordan Henderson injury update

The Northern Irish manager has confessed that his captain is an injury doubt ahead of the trip to face Arsenal on Monday.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has stated on the club’s official website that Jordan Henderson will be assessed ahead of his side’s trip to face Arsenal on Monday, but the Reds captain is a doubt.

The England international picked up a knock in the Merseyside outfit’s 1-0 victory over Bournemouth in the team’s first home game of the new season at Anfield last Monday.

As such, the former Sunderland man is a doubt for the clash at the Emirates Stadium, in what will be a telling fixture to gauge just where the teams are in terms of achieving their respective ambitions this season.

Rodgers has stated that a decision will be made about Henderson closer to the time but that apart from this he has a relatively clean bill of health in his squad.

“We’re just assessing Jordan day by day,” Rodgers told the club’s official website.

“He’s obviously had the problem with his foot, but we’ll see how he goes over the next 48 hours and take it from there.

“There are just one or two players that we’ll assess, but hopefully we’ll be otherwise unchanged.”

Should Henderson be deemed unable to feature against the Gunners, Emre Can will surely be brought into the starting XI to play alongside James Milner in the visiting side’s boiler room.

Liverpool were dispatched 4-1 by a dominant Arsenal in the last meeting of the sides in North London and as such Henderson’s inclusion would be a real boost for the away side.
