Aston Villa reportedly delighted to offer Lescott a deal; £2.5m move hinges on new Baggies' signing

Could Aston Villa be about to sign the West Bromwich Albion player?

According to a report from the Daily Star Sunday Aston Villa are closing in on a £2.5million move for West Bromwich Albion defender Joleon Lescott.

The latest report claims Villa would be delighted to offer the 33-year-old the chance to play for the club he supported as a boy, and that they are merely waiting on the Baggies to finalise the transfer of a replacement before making yet another addition to Tim Sherwood’s squad.

Villa have signed a whole host of players this summer, the most impressive of which have been left-back Jordan Amavi, midfielder Idrissa Gueye and centre-forward Rudy Gestede.

Jordan Veretout and Micah Richards also look like brilliant signings and Lescott’s experience would ensure he is another success story were he to arrive at Villa Park.

The report claims that while there had earlier been a feeling that West Brom would offer Lescott a new deal this summer, their manager Tony Pulis is now considering selling the player.

It goes on to claim that a West Brom move for either Federico Fazio or Jonny Evans would allow Lescott the opportunity to move to Villa before the transfer window closes early next month.
