The Arsenal boss has stated that the Chilean is at the same level as the man that replaced him at Barcelona.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has stated that star forward Alexis Sanchez is as good as former Liverpool star Luis Suarez, who replaced him at Barcelona, Goal reports.

The French manager brought the Chilean attacker to the Emirates Stadium last summer, with the former Udinese man having an exceptional first campaign in English football.

Sanchez had a hot-and-cold time at Camp Nou, with the Catalan powerhouses opting to sell him to Arsenal last year and spend the transfer fee on bringing Suarez to the club in his place.

Suarez and co recorded a momentous treble last season, with the Uruguayan striking up an ominous attacking trident with Lionel Messi and Neymar.

Despite Sanchez being deemed as expendable by the current European champions, Wenger has stated that the South American star is just as good as Suarez.

“Sanchez and Suarez are at the same level,” Wenger stated in a press conference, covered by Goal.

“Suarez is a central striker and Sanchez is more a wide player who likes to go up and down and is involved in dribbling, but they have similarities.

“Sanchez has that desire to go forward and provoke, he is a guy who provokes chaos in the defences because he has a go at them. He does not go across, he goes straight. His desire to go forward, to provoke opponents, to run at people, creates danger.

“And he plays to win in every single game. I have had players like that before, players who want to win so much, but he has the style as well.

“What Sanchez has is that, in the first two yards, he is lightning quick. He has that explosive attitude linked with his spirit and that makes him even more spectacular.”

Sanchez was part of the Chile team that won the Copa America on home soil over the summer and was nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award last season.

He scored his first goal of the season against Crystal Palace last weekend and is set to be named in the Gunners XI to face Liverpool in a highly anticipated clash at the Emirates Stadium on Monday night.
