The Black Cats faithful took to social media after the shock horror of NOT losing a game!
After 4-2 and 3-1 defeats in their opening two Premier League games, Sunderland were backed by most to take another hiding here against the in-form Swans.
It didn't happen, however, and supporters were impressed with several steely performances.
Up front, Jermain Defoe performed - and scored - while fans were also delighted with new signings Yann M'Vila and Jeremain Lens. The duo injected some much-needed urgency into Sunderland's display against Swansea and Advocaat's side looked much better as a unit.
Once M'Vila and Lens peak full fitness we have 2 very good players there!Ooze Quality! #safc— KEN (@FarnMichael) August 22, 2015
If we could sign two more player of Lens & M'Vila's quality we should be safe. Both were fantastic today. Put a shift in, too. #safc— Sunderland Stats (@SunderlandStats) August 22, 2015
Quite enjoyed today. Much better effort. Committed and never let our heads drop. M'Vila and Lens look quality. Pants saved the day #SAFC— Dan (@dan_safc3) August 22, 2015
But, while many were pleased with the new arrivals, plenty were also impressed with defender John O'Shea. The man some felt was most significant against Swansea, however? Jack Rodwell.
Indeed, several Sunderland supporters sung the midfielder's praises on Twitter, simply because his performance was such a improvement on some of his recent dismal form. Many disagreed but there were certainly plenty who felt the 24-year-old was worth praising on social media.
There's still no doubt a long way to go for the Black Cats. But this was a small step in the right direction.
Lens and Rodwell very impressive today. Both physical and look to get forward quickly. Now, can it be maintained? #SAFC— Sam Lightle (@SamLightle) August 22, 2015
M'Vila, Rodwell and Cattermole looked a decent midfield threesome #safc we actually competed in mf for once!— R8 (@benwright420) August 22, 2015
Not great but it's a start. Lens looked fantastic second half. Rodwell very decent too! And what a stop from the big man! #safc— Jonathan Defty (@Defty88) August 22, 2015
