Newcastle gave a strong defensive performance against the Red Devils to play out a goalless draw at Old Trafford in the Premier League.
The Magpies headed into the game on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Swansea City away from home at the Liberty Stadium.
Hosts United were favourites to win the contest, but McClaren’s side held strong to pick up a point.
Following the match, the Newcastle head coach said that he was disappointed that his side were not able to pick up all three points at Old Trafford.
"We're disappointed,” McClaren told BBC Sport. “We knew the first 20 minutes would be theirs but we grew in belief and we should have scored.
“The defending and discipline was superb but we really could have nicked it - we had the chances but didn't take them.”
Over the course of the 90 minutes, Newcastle had just 30% of the possession, took seven shots but none of them was on target and earned five corners.
Hosts United had as much as 70% of the possession, took 20 shots of which eight was on target and earned 11 corners.
