West Brom have already snapped up James Chester from Hull City this summer, but manager Tony Pulis appears to be keen on more defensive reinforcements before the transfer deadline.
The Baggies boss had lined up a move to sign Tottenham's giant centre back Fazio, who has struggled to nail down a first team place under his compatriot Mauricio Pochettino at White Hart Lane.
A deal for Fazio appeared to be on the verge of completion, but The Sun report that the move collapsed on Friday - meaning Pulis must now look for new targets.
The report also states that West Brom are now lining up a move to sign Manchester United defender Jonny Evans, who appears to have little future at Old Trafford.
The Northern Ireland international, 27, is well behind the likes of Chris Smalling, Daley Blind, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo in the pecking order under Louis van Gaal, and may look to leave the club in order to play regularly - and West Brom are believed to be interested.
Evans has shown previously that he can be an impressive Premier League defender, and Pulis may believe that he can resurrect the centre back's career having stagnated at United.
With United having no use for Evans, a deal is certainly realistic - but whether Pulis makes one more last ditch attempt to sign Fazio remains to be seen.
