Report claims alleged Newcastle target Aymen Abdennour will leave Monaco this summer

Could Newcastle United sign another talented defender in the coming days?

According to a report from French publication Le Parisien, alleged Newcastle United and Aston Villa target Aymen Abdennour will leave his current club AS Monaco before the end the transfer window closes.

The paper cites a source which claims, “Aymen will leave. We are just waiting for the right movement.”

The 26-year-old Tunisian international has been capped 41 times for his country and while he only arrived at Monaco last year he is already being tipped for the exit.

Prior to his spell there, the centre-back featured 82 times for Toulouse and has also played for both Werder Bremen and Etoile Sportive du Sahel.

A recent report from Chronicle Live claimed Newcastle’s pursuit of the player was tied in to the future of Magpies player Mike Williamson.

A £15million move for Abdennour was touted in that article but as yet nothing has been announced while the Daily Star claimed earlier this month that Villa are also interested in signing the player.

Of the two clubs it is Newcastle who could most do with defensive reinforcements but, while the player is reportedly set to leave, there is no telling where he could end up if he does move on in the coming days.
