The Newcastle United players were training on Friday ahead of today’s Premier League game against Manchester United away from home at Old Trafford.
The Magpies will be looking to register their first win of the season, having picked up just a point from their opening two games.
Steve McClaren’s side drew 2-2 with Southampton at St. James’ Park, before going down 2-0 to Swansea City away from the home at the Liberty Stadium last weekend.
The Newcastle players were training hard today, and among those preparing for the match was Florian Thauvin (see photo above and below).
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder joined the Premier League outfit on a five-year contract from Marseille earlier this week.
As part of the deal, Remy Cabella has left Newcastle on a season-long loan deal for Marseille.
While the arrival of a new player is generally met with delight, the signing of Thauvin could be a concern for some Newcastle fans.
Despite being young and talented, the Frenchman had an under-par season at Marseille in 2014-15.
Thauvin scored five goals and created 53 chances in 36 Ligue 1 appearances. The youngster had a pass accuracy of 77% and a shot accuracy of 34%, and won 19 headers, 82 dribbles and 36 tackles.
Well-respected French sports paper L’Equipe considered Thauvin’s performances during the 2014-15 campaign so bad that they included him in their Ligue 1 worst team of the season.
