Mehdi Abeid has left Premier League outfit Newcastle United for Greek side Panathinaikos.

Newcastle United fans have taken to social networking site Twitter to give their reaction to the departure of Mehdi Abeid from the club.

The Algeria international midfielder has left Newcastle for Greek outfit Panathinaikos, as announced on the Premier League club’s official website on Friday.

The 23-year-old joined the Magpies from French club Lens in 2011, but he struggled to establish himself in the first team.

Abeid could make just 21 appearances for Newcastle in all competitions, and it seems that the club bosses did not think that he had a long-term future at St. James’ Park.

The Algerian midfielder posted the following heartfelt message to Newcastle fans on Twitter and Instagram:

The departure of Abeid does not seem to have gone down well with the Newcastle fans, many of whom have taken to social networking site Twitter to slam the club hierarchy for their decision.
