Manchester United transfer news: Woodward's surprise Neymar talks; De Gea going nowhere; Baggies target Evans

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

According to a report from the Sun, Manchester United have been holding secret talks regarding a potential deal to sign Barcelona forward Neymar.

The news comes as a huge shock – and an unlikely twist if truth be told – despite United’s obvious need for an additional front-man.

The Brazilian international has scored 54 goals in 92 matches for Barcelona and has a contract that runs until the summer of 2018, but it is being claimed that chief executive Ed Woodward held secret talks regarding the 23-year-old when he travelled to Spain last week.

In other news, United manager Louis van Gaal has made it clear that he sees David de Gea’s short-term future at Old Trafford.

The Spanish international has been linked with an exit all summer, with Real Madrid said to be looming, but in comments published by the BBC the United boss said, “We are not selling De Gea.”

So there you have it then…

And finally, the Express & Star claims West Bromwich Albion are ready to bid for United defender Jonny Evans after a potential move for Tottenham Hotspur’s Federico Fazio stalled over personal terms.

Evans does not seem to be part of van Gaal’s first-team plans this season with Chris Smalling and Daley Blind playing every match to date and Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones also on the club’s books.
