Indeed, replying to a follower on Twitter, the Welshman backed Liverpool to miss out on Champions League football once more.
I think you'll lose Monday night.. Can see you finishing top 6, would be delighted though if you got into top 4. https://t.co/V2Yjvd90dh— John Hartson (@JohnHartson10) August 22, 2015
Seeing a BBC pundit predict an Arsenal win is no surprise, with several already backing the Gunners against the Anfield outfit due to their home advantage.
Many are also unsure as to whether Liverpool were impressively resilient during their first two Premier League games - or mediocre but lucky.
What would top six mean for Liverpool?
If the Reds do miss out on the top four once again as Hartson suggests, meanwhile, questions will no doubt be asked of boss Brendan Rodgers' future. It may not even come down to questions, of course, as many feel this season is his last chance to deliver.
If Liverpool were to enjoy an okay campaign - without some of the embarrassments of last term - but miss out on the Champions League, Rodgers may be shown the door in the summer as part of an amicable exit.
But if Liverpool are to make the top four, who will miss out? Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea?
