Celtic player ratings v Dundee United: Janko excellent, but Stokes struggles again

Celtic Stands

Celtic beat Dundee United 3-1 earlier today. Here is how their players rated...

Logan Bailly 6 - solid enough from the Belgian but was lucky to get away with some dodgy footwork in the first half where he could have conceded or even given away a penalty.

Saidy Janko 8 - superb performance from the former Manchester United man. Had a number of driving runs forward, particularly in the first half where Dundee United couldn't handle him. A little more suspect defensively but a promising showing.

Efe Ambrose 6 - did okay in Virgil van Dijk's absence early on, but gave away a penalty towards the end of the first half, reinforcing why Celtic fans deem him unreliable in the heart of defence.

Eoghan O'Connell 7 - a solid start for the 20-year-old, who looked calm and composed in the Celtic defence despite his youth. Will, much like Kieran Tierney, hope to kick on and earn a regular place in the Celtic team.

Emilio Izaguirre 6 - end product continues be hit and miss but this was far from Izaguirre's worst display for the Bhoys. His overhit deliveries into the box are a constant frustration, though.

Charlie Mulgrew 7 - controlled the game well in midfield, was composed in possession and displayed a decent passing range before being substituted in the second half.

Tom Rogic 7 - impressed in midfield alongside the experienced Mulgrew. Has started the season in fine form and was again instrumental for Celtic in the middle of the park, suggesting he deserves a bigger role.

Gary Mackay-Steven 6 - flitted in and out of the game. Showed some nice touches in possession but wasn't a consistent threat for Celtic - which Deila will be somewhat concerned about.

Kris Commons 7 - displayed some outstanding technique throughout the game. Final ball was a little hit and miss, but Commons played a key part in Celtic's victory.

Anthony Stokes 5 - played a nice ball for McGregor's goal but was ineffectual throughout. Not entirely his fault given that he was shoved out on the left hand side for most of the game, but he didn't grasp his opportunity in the first team.

Leigh Griffiths 7 - excellent on the shoulder of the last man and took his goal superbly by rounding the goalkeeper before tapping the ball home. Could have had more than one goal on another day.

Callum McGregor 7 - came on and scored the crucial third goal in a vital cameo performance from the youngster.

Scott Allan 6 - could have scored just seconds into his debut with a long range chip. Got booked late on.

Joe Thomson - wasn't on long enough to make an impact as Celtic saw out the game.
