The Gunners will host the Merseysiders in a mouthwatering clash, with both sides have lofty ambitions this season.
The North London club started the new season poorly, losing at home 2-0 to West Ham on the opening day of the campaign, but made amends to some degree by beating Crystal Palace last weekend 2-1 at Selhurst Park.
With Liverpool winning their first two games of the new campaign and having the aim of finishing in the top four this season, most are predicting a close clash at the Emirates Stadium.
Wenger has stated that the result is crucial and can help Arsenal make their home a fortress.
“If you want to have a successful season you want to be strong at home,” Wenger is quoted as saying on the club’s official website.
“Normally we are strong at home. This is an opportunity to show that.
“We missed our first game and we had to look at ourselves, and we responded very well. Now we need to come back to our usual strength that we have at home.
“Your confidence is linked with your last result and at Crystal Palace we responded well. You could see that we were a bit edgy at times but we responded in a very strong way. From that we should have enough confidence to go into the game positively against Liverpool.
“This is a very important game where the result will of course be vital. It’s not a result that will decide [our title chances] but in our heads we know it’s very important.”
Arsenal started last season slowly, with this inconsistency playing a part in the club missing out o putting forward a sustained title challenge.
Liverpool were comprehensively beaten in the equivalent fixture last season, with Brendan Rodgers’ men hoping for a much better outcome this time round.
