Newcastle look to have completed their transfer business for the summer window.
McClaren said: “I’m very pleased with what we have got, very pleased. I think that’s it for now, but how many times have you heard, ‘That’s it for now’ with ten days of the window to go? We are not expecting, we are not chasing anything. We are not trying to make things happen. Usually with ten days to go things might happen, but at the moment we are delighted with what we have got.”
Whilst not ruling out any new signings, the Newcastle head coach has confirmed he is not actively looking for players, and will only make a move should something become available which interests him and the club.
The Tyneside club have brought in five players so far this summer, strengthening every area of the team that was showing weakness.
Chancel Mbemba provides added cover in defence, whilst Georginio Wijnaldum and Florian Thauvin add a creative spark to midfield which was sorely lacking. Aleksander Mitrovic has been signed to add some much needed goals to the team.
Ivan Toney was the other signing, but it is unlikely that he will be utilised much in the first-team this campaign.
McClaren seems pleased with the players he has brought it, and certainly sounds confident that the team he has created is good enough to achieve Newcastle’s aims of a mid-table finish.
Now it is just a matter of getting all the players to gel on the field of play, with the Magpies looking firmly up the table this season.
