Former Manchester United and Arsenal star Robin van Persie has taken to social site Twitter to express his delight at scoring for Fenerbahce on Thursday evening.
The Netherlands international striker scored a late goal for the Turkish club with his first touch in their Europa League play-off first-leg clash against Atromitos Athens away from home.
It was the 32-year-old’s first goal for Fenerbahce since joining them from Premier League giants United earlier this summer.
Van Persie came on as a substitute against Atromitos in the 80th minute and found the target just nine minutes later.
The former Feyenoord star’s goal proved to be the only one in the game, as Fenerbahce won the first leg of their Europa League playoff tie 1-0 away from home.
After the win, Van Persie, who played for Arsenal from 2004 to 2012 before joining their Premier League rivals United, made the following posts on Twitter:
I'm very proud and happy to score my first goal for @fenerbahce & get the important away goal for the team & fans!— Robin van Persie (@Persie_Official) August 21, 2015
Nothing is done yet we are only half way to qualify for Europe. With the amazing support of all of you, I'm sure we will do it next week!— Robin van Persie (@Persie_Official) August 21, 2015
