Sunderland star Giacherrini looks to be leaving the Stadium of Light.
It is stated that he has held talks with Bologna concerning a move to his homeland, and has reached an agreement which will see Sunderland pay a large portion of his wages to ensure the deal goes through.
It was his financial demands which looked to be holding up a deal as Bologna could not afford him, but the Black Cats are aware that Giaccherini does not want to stay on Wearside, and are willing to fund a large portion of his wages.
However, there is still one complication which could prevent the transfer being completed, with Giaccherini’s injury record doing little to suggest he has a top flight career in him.
The 30-year-old missed much of last season due to injury, and Bologna are worried that the physical condition of his ankle is not good enough to ensure he can consistently play. However, he is still expected to travel to Italy today to undergo a medical with the Serie A side, before a deal is concluded.
