Mehdi Abeid has taken to social networking site Twitter to bid a fond farewell to Newcastle United.
The Algeria international midfielder has left Newcastle for Greek outfit Panathinaikos, as announced on the Premier League club’s official website earlier today.
The 23-year-old joined the Magpies from French club Lens in 2011, but he struggled to establish himself in the first team.
Abeid could make just 21 appearances for Newcastle in all competitions, but he seems to have fond memories of his time at St. James’ Park.
The Algerian midfielder has posted the following heartfelt message to Newcastle fans on Twitter and Instagram, while also expressing his delight at joining Panathinaikos, where he played the 2013-14 season on loan.
Home sweet Home : I'm back the green fit me well ,so happy to be back can't wait to start my season… https://t.co/Fa80VEciwT— Mehdi Abeid (@reelM_abeid) August 21, 2015
Newcastle have made a disappointing start to the 2015-16 Premier League season.
The Magpies drew 2-2 with Southampton at St. James’ Park in their opening league game of the campaign.
Steve McClaren’s side went down 2-0 to Swansea City away from the home at the Liberty Stadium last weekend and will take on Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
