The manager is keen on the Costa Rican staying at the club.
The Costa Rica international has only made 10 first-team appearances for the Gunners, spending the majority of his time with the club out on loan.
The last of those was a successful loan spell with Villareal last season, where he impressed, but so far a move away from the Emirates Stadium has failed to materialise.
Wenger has said that he would be like to keep the attacker at the club.
“At the moment he is here and personally I would like to keep him,” he told Arsenal.com.
“I will have to sit down with Joel because I rate him highly as a player and personally if he stays here I am very happy.”
A move away best for Campbell
Despite Wenger clearly wanting to keep Campbell at the Emirates this season and beyond, the player would be wise to seek a move away.
At this moment in time, first-team football is key to his continued development; and that is something he won’t get in London given the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all ahead of him in the pecking order.
A permanent move doesn’t appear to be on the horizon, however, so perhaps another loan will have to suffice, with a move in the Premier League something that would likely appeal to both him and Arsenal.
