Former Liverpool player John Aldridge believes new signing Nathaniel Clyne has been the club’s best player so far this season., the 56-year-old wrote in his blog for the Liverpool Echo.
Clyne joined the Reds for an eight-figure fee from Southampton this summer, signing a five-year deal as the club see him as their ideal right-back for the long haul.
He has been impressive so far, helping Brendan Rodgers' side keep two clean sheets as the Merseysiders start their current campaign with consecutive victories over Stoke City and Bournemouth.
Speaking ahead of the Reds’ clash at Arsenal on Monday, Aldridge has been impressed by Clyne’s energy and believes he has been the club’s outstanding player so far this season.
“I think Nathaniel Clyne has been Liverpool’s best player in the opening two Premier League games. It’s great to see a full-back with that energy and that defensive ability, very little gets past him. I think he’s going to prove a fantastic buy for Liverpool,” Aldridge explained.

As per the table provided by Opta Stats, Clyne’s defensive capabilities are evident as he so far appears dependable and impresses in a number of key fullback categories.
He has averaged three tackles, 2.5 interceptions, 5-5 defensive duel winners, 6.5 ball recoveries and 40.5 accurate passes per Premier League encounter.
The fullback positions were an area for concern at Anfield last season and was partly responsible for Rodgers opting for three at the back, but so far this season it’s hard to envisage that happening again.
