Wolves took a two-goal lead at home to QPR, before falling to defeat in the second half.
Goals from Benik Afobe and Kevin McDonald sent Kenny Jackett’s men on the way to victory, before Charlie Austin pulled one back with a header from a cross just before half-time.
Matt Phillips registered the assist for Austin’s goal, before securing the West London club victory in the second half.
He equalised the tie in the 52nd minute, and then netted the winning goal with 18 minutes left on the clock.
It was the winning goal which will disappoint fans the most, with goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez unable to prevent Phillips’ strike flying into the net.
Martinez struggled at times, and it was a surprise to see the Arsenal loanee take to the field in front of regular first-choice Carl Ikeme.
If he continues to perform like this, it will not be long before Ikeme is back in goal, and Wolves fans took to Twitter to express their frustration at seeing the 22-year-old Argentine between the posts.
I blame Jacket for last nights defeat. The defending in front of Martinez was not good at times but he shouldn't even be in goal! #WWFC— Tim Hough (@TimHough2011) August 20, 2015
Still having flashbacks of some of Martinez's keeping last night #WWFC— Chris Hughes (@HUGEWolf) August 20, 2015
I'm not one to criticise players after a few games but Hause,Iorfa and Martinez were passengers tonight. All must be dropped Saturday #WWFC— Marc Twinberrow (@Jack10OfSpades) August 19, 2015
Martinez made more mistakes tonight than Ikeme has in 2 years. No justification for keeping him in on Saturday. #WWFC— Nick Wall (@NickWolf89) August 19, 2015
Tbf QPR could've scored first tonight. How Martinez managed to let that early shot slip through him and almost squirm in is beyond me— Robert Kostur (@Robbo_WWFC) August 19, 2015
If Martinez starts next game I'm gonna start believing the rumours that it's on Wenger's orders cus it's definitely not on merit. #wwfc— Sean Browne (@SeanyBrowne) August 19, 2015
Cannot ever remember Ikeme having as poor a game as Martinez tonight distribution/beaten with shots which should have been dealt with.#wwfc— Jeremy Nicholls (@JemNicholls_) August 19, 2015
