According to his agent, America de Cali youngster Steven Lucumi will complete a switch to Tottenham Hotspur within days after a bid in the region of £2.1 million was agreed, Spanish paper AS report.
The 20-year-old came to the fore as he led the scoring charts for Colombia during their U20 South American tournament finals in Uruguay.
Lucumi made such an impression that Uruguayan agent Rodolfo Patron took him under his wing and started to draw up plans over a potential switch to Europe.
Spurs were said to be contacted by Patron, and initial talks have advanced from there with the clubs now agreeing on a fee for the player and a five-year contract has been mooted.
Speaking to Spanish paper AS, Patron explains: “We have been working on the subject for 15 days. It has advanced a lot and we believe the deal will be done within the next few days.”
Lucumi’s current club America de Cali requested a fee in the region of £2.1 million tax free for Lucumi, a figure which Spurs have agreed to pay to.
Due to his status as a South American youngster, he is unable to move directly to North London as a result of work permit issues therefore he will remain at Cali for the remainder of the current season.
Moreover, before heading to the Premier League, the rising star will be loaned out to a Portuguese club with Lisbon-based giants Benfica mooted as a possible destination.
“What’s important is the player has a spell in Europe before arriving in the Premier League, because he has yet to feature in a Copa America or World Cup for the Colombian national team,” Patron explained.
