The Spanish midfielder is set to leave the Bernabeu this summer but has a tough choice ahead of him.
The Reds have been keen on a deal for the Real Madrid midfielder for some time, with it being reported by Marca back in July that he had turned down a move to Brendan Rodgers’ side in favour of staying in Spain.
Following the capture of Mateo Kovacic from Inter Milan however, he has been pushed further down the pecking order, with a move away looking increasingly likely before the transfer window closes.
And that has alerted the attention of Juventus, who, alongside both Liverpool and Real Sociedad, are the only clubs to have made an official offer for the midfielder according to Marca.
Difficult choice between Juventus and Liverpool
Illarramendi may fancy the move to Italy as it is the only one of the current trio that can offer him Champions League football, while they are also an almost certainty to be challenging for the title again next season.
However, it is debatable whether he would be a first team regular once Khedira gets back to full fitness, meaning he would find himself in a similar situation to the one he’s in at the Bernabeu.
He may then look favourably on a move to Anfield instead, who despite their high number of midfielders are lacking in a true defensive midfielder, although Emre Can looks to be a bright prospect for the future.
With those questions facing him then, it seems Illarramendi has a lot to consider before his move from the Bernabeu this summer.
