Report: Tottenham show interest in Asier Illarramendi, one complication in deal

Tottenham are reportedly keen on signing the Real Madrid midfielder on loan.

According to the Standard, Spurs are keen on completing a loan deal for Asier Illarramendi of Real Madrid, although they face a complication if they intend to complete his signing.

The 25-year-old midfielder has been pushed further down the pecking order at Madrid due to the signing of Mateo Kovacic, and Tottenham are in the market for a new central player.

The likes of Eric Dier, Nabil Bentaleb and Ryan Mason have all been utilised in the double pivot role in a 4-2-3-1, but the lack of depth is a real worry. Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with making a move for a new midfielder this summer, and with just over a week left of the transfer window, he needs to move fast to complete another signing.

Illarramendi looks a great option, and with his future at the Bernabeu in doubt, Spurs are considering a loan deal to bring him to White Hart Lane for the season.

However, there is a complication in any potential deal, as Illarramendi wants to be playing Champions League football, something the Lilywhites cannot offer the former Spanish youth international.
