According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Sunderland have made an approach to sign Jonathan De Guzman from Napoli.
The 27-year-old midfielder, a 14-capped Dutch international, used to play for Premier League side Swansea City, impressing during a two-year spell at the club.
He moved to Napoli last summer, scoring seven goals and registering three assists in 36 games for the Serie A side.
With the Black Cats keen on adding attacking strength to their midfield prior to the end of the transfer window, they have reportedly already made an official approach to sign De Guzman on a season-long loan from Napoli.
It is stated that the Wearside club have submitted an offer for a season-long loan deal, with the option to purchase the midfielder outright at the end of the campaign for roughly £3.5 million.
It is believed that Napoli are open to selling De Guzman, after almost sending him to Marseille earlier this summer before Marcelo Bielsa resigned as head coach.
The deal collapsed after the change in management, and Sunderland are now hoping to secure De Guzman in the coming days.
There should not be any complications with the offer being accepted, and it is just up to De Guzman to decide whether he would like to return to England and the Premier League this summer.
