The Gers maintained their strong start to the 2015-16 campaign with a 2-0 victory over Ayr in the second round of the Scottish Challenge Cup at Somerset Park.
Nicky Clark put Rangers in the lead as early as the 15th minute, and Barrie McKay doubled the visitors’ advantage over the Scottish League One outfit two minutes before the half-time interval.
Over the course of the 90 minutes, Rangers had 63% of the possession, took 16 shots of which eight were on target and earned five corners.
Hosts Ayr had just 37% of the possession, took five shots of which only one was on target and failed to earn a single corner.
Following the win, Rangers boss Warburton posted the following message on Twitter:
Outstanding support from our fans once again. Boys worked hard and we look forward to tomorrow's draw!— Mark Warburton (@MarkWarburton9) August 19, 2015
The win against Ayr away from home was Rangers’ fifth in a row in all competitions this season.
Rangers defeated Scottish Championship promotion rivals Hibernian 6-2 away from home in the first round of the Scottish Challenge Cup, before getting the better of Peterhead 3-0 at Ibrox in the first round of the Scottish League Cup.
The Glasgow giants then won 3-1 against St. Mirren at home in the Scottish Championship, and followed that up with a 5-1 victory over Alloa Athletic at the Indodrill Stadium on Sunday.
