Manchester United and Southampton fans react on Twitter to Sadio Mane performance

Both sets of fans were casting an eye over the Saints forward's Europa League performance on social media.

There was a lot more attention on Sadio Mane's performance for Southampton on Thursday night than usual. Naturally - it's not every day a player is linked to Manchester United. Unless it's Sergio Ramos or Pedro.

And Pedro is exactly who Mane could replace for United this summer, so to speak, with the Daily Telegraph suggesting Louis van Gaal, Ed Woodward and co will launch a bid for the Saints forward after missing out on the Spaniard.

As is always the case, the speculation has been denied by those on the Southampton side. But, while the transfer talk is in the air, Manchester United fans took the opportunity to cast an eye over the 23-year-old while he played against FC Midtjylland.

Considering the initial backlash to the Mane United (pardon the pun) reports, however, the Southampton man was going to need at least a hat-trick if he was to really impress supporters of his potential new side. That didn't quite happen.

He certainly wasn't the worst member of a Saints side that only drew 1-1 at home, a result that could end up costing them their Europa League place (whether you think that's a good thing or not). But even Southampton fans gave a mixed reaction to his display on Twitter. Here's a selection of what they and Manchester United supporters said:
