Liverpool transfer round-up: Rodgers considers deal for Alex Song, Lucas Leiva latest

All the latest summer transfer news from Anfield...

According to the Daily Mirror, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers considered a move to sign Barcelona misift Alex Song before the transfer deadline.

Song, 27, spent last season on loan at West Ham having failed to break into the Barcelona side, and 28 appearances, the former Arsenal man played a key role upon his return to the Premier League.

Now though, Song is back in Spain with Barcelona, and with no future at the Camp Nou, he is almost certainly set for a permanent exit this summer.

The Mirror believe that Song had been considered by Brendan Rodgers as a potential signing with Jordan Henderson struggling with an injury - but it seems that Rodgers will avoid making a move for Song with Henderson the verge of a return.

Elsewhere, the Liverpool Echo report that Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva could be leaving Anfield, with a move to Turkish side Besiktas on the cards.

The 28-year-old has spent eight years on Merseyside having joined from Gremio back in 2007, but is a bit-part player under Rodgers, meaning a departure could be beneficial for all parties.

Finally, defender Tiago Ilori has told the Liverpool Echo that, whilst he spent last season on loan at Bordeaux and remains down the pecking order at Anfield, he wants to earn his place in the Reds first team.

"I want to play for Liverpool. I don't want to be in Liverpool just to be sitting around," said Ilori. "My objective is the same as every other player, we all want to play so everyone's going to fight for their place."
