Everton fans got their first glimpse at new signing Mason Holgate last night, in the club's under-21 clash against rivals Liverpool.
Holgate signed from League One side Barnsley earlier this month, following in the footsteps of John Stones.
The teenage defender broke into the Barnsley first team last season and has real potential, but suffered a shaky start in the Merseyside mini-derby.
He gave away a penalty for a foul on Harry Wilson as Liverpool raced into a lead, but was much improved afterwards, as Everton fought back to claim an unlikely 3-3 draw.
Liverpool had been 3-0 up but three second half goals including two in the last five minutes saw the Toffees take a share of the spoils.
Versatile enough to play at centre-back and right-back, Holgate looks to be a real asset for Everton at under-21 level, as he continues his development, aiming to crack the first team.
The reviews from Everton fans were absolutely glowing, with comparisons in style to Stones already raised.
Here is a look at the reaction via Twitter to his performance...
First look at Mason Holgate tonight. Raw defensively but you can see why Roberto wanted him, very composed on the ball. #EFC— Paul Johns (@pauljohns78) August 19, 2015
Character of Rhino & Dunc shining through in this young group, Holgate blessed with an engine. #EFC— Aaron W Evans (@LyricistAzzy) August 19, 2015
Mason Holgate is an absolute baller, by the way. Stones-like elegance in possession. #EFC— Patrick Boyland (@Paddy_Boyland) August 19, 2015
