Former Celtic and Scotland defender Derek Whyte told talkSPORT that he doesn’t see any issues with Scott Allan settling into life at the club.
Allan recently signed on the dotted line of a deal to link up with the Bhoys, despite his support for rivals Rangers, a club he very nearly joined before his Celtic switch.
However, Whyte has moved quickly to take the sting out of any negative reaction the player received, suggesting even Celtic legend Kenny Dalglish had an affection for the Gers during his more youthful days.
“I think it’s just because it’s Scotland and sometimes there’s not a lot of great football to write about – It’s just something to write about, I mean Kenny Dalglish was a Rangers fan,” he told talkSPORT.
“There are a number of players to play for Celtic who have grown up as a kid as a Rangers fan – Where do you want to play; in the Championship or in the top league in Scotland and hopefully the Champions League.”
The test for Allan
The real test for Allan in a Celtic shirt is how he and the fans respond, the first time he makes a bad mistake.
Although it shouldn’t matter, there will be a section of fans that get on his case whenever he plays poorly because of his connection with Rangers.
However, he needs to brush that off and respond well, working with Ronny Deila to eradicate any weaknesses from his game.
If he receives the right level of support from the club’s fans and his colleagues around him, he should settle quickly and justify the club’s decision to invest in him.
