Aston Villa media round-up: Sherwood scouts Afobe, Dominguez targeted

A selection of stories in the media involving Aston Villa in the last 24 hours.

Aston Villa are reportedly still in the hunt for out-of-favour West Brom defender Joleon Lescott - and the player is keen on the move - according to the Daily Mirror.

The arrival of James Chester has pushed the 33-year old down the pecking order and Villa are expected to return with an offer after having a bid rejected earlier this summer.

Another centre-back linked with a switch to Villa Park is Borussia Monchengladbach’s Alvaro Dominguez, as reported by Goal Deutschland.

The 26-year old Spaniard joined from Atletico Madrid in 2012 and has been a mainstay, but recent issues surrounding the treatment of a back injury he sustained has led to a fallout with the German side, and an exit could be on the cards.

Meanwhile, the Birmingham Mail reports that Tim Sherwood is still looking to offload four players before the close of the window.

Philippe Senderos, Kieran Richardson, Aleksandar Tonev and Charles N’Zogbia are all deemed surplus to requirements and will be sold this summer if buyers can be found.

Sherwood has also urged Villa starlet Jack Grealish to take more chances in a bid to add goals to his game.

Speaking to AVTV, the Villa boss said:

"I think Jack is looking for the perfect finish and some goals you score are quite scruffy as we saw with Januzai's against us on Friday.

"Sometimes you have to buy a ticket - and you get lucky. I think Jack needs to bring that to his game and I think he will."

Finally, Tim Sherwood was in attendance at the Molineux last night - according to the Birmingham Mail - to cast an eye over Benik Afobe as visitors QPR ran out 3-2 winners.

Wolves issued a statement yesterday reaffirm that they have no intention of selling the deadly frontman, but a Villa approach is expected before the close of the window.
