£4.5 million: The price of Tottenham Hotspur keeping Emmanuel Adebayor for the season

Adebayor 2014

Is it any wonder Emmanuel Adebayor is reluctant to leave Tottenham Hotspur?

Tottenham Hotspur are struggling to get Emmanuel Adebayor off their books, and with the money he is set to earn, it is little wonder.

Adebayor earns £100,000 per week, as reported the Mail - and has one year remaining on his contract.

Between now and the end of June 2016, this works out at that the striker is set to earn a whopping £4.5 million.

With his market value decreased to the point where Spurs would happily give him away, Adebayor's earning power has also dipped, and wherever his next move is, he is unlikely to earn as much as he is on at Tottenham.

West Ham are the latest side to pull out of the running, with ESPN reporting they have doubts over his temperament and are looking elsewhere for a new striker.

Aston Villa had seemed set to sign Adebayor, with SkySports reporting in late July that a deal was close, but this has since fallen through.

Spurs are in a tough position, and while they could elect to pay him off, it would mean admitting failure to shift the striker.

The other option if they cannot sell him this summer is to hold out until January, and make Adebayor sit in the reserves.

If Spurs are unsuccessful in landing their own striker targets, they may have to see if they can repair the relationship with the striker to give him one last chance, seeing as they are paying him a huge sum anyway, although it can be assumed at this point, there is no desire from anyone at Tottenham for this to happen.
