Tottenham media round-up: Fresh Berahino bid as Pochettino has doubts over signing midfielder

White Hart Lane

A selection of the latest stories in the media involving Tottenham Hotspur this Wednesday evening.

Tottenham are to up their bid for Saido Berahino having had a bid for the forward turned down by West Bromwich Albion yesterday, according to the London Evening Standard.

The Standard reports that Spurs remain confident of landing the 21-year-old, and an £18 million bid was turned down by the Baggies yesterday, but they are prepared to raise that fee to £22 million.

The report also states that Spurs are prepared to treble the £15,000 per week wages that Berahino is on at The Hawthorns and discussions over a new deal to keep him in the West Midlands have stalled.

The Standard also reports that Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino is having second thoughts over the potential signing of Sven Bender from Borussia Dortmund, as the Spurs boss looks for something who can strengthen the central midfield area.

It is said the main reason for Pochettino to consider other options was because of the injury record of Bender of the past couple of years.

The club is still trying to find a way to offload striker Emmanuel Adebayor, and the Daily Telegraph are among those reporting that any chance of a move to West Ham United is off the agenda.

The London Evening Standard has reported that wage demands have become the main stumbling block and that the Hammers rate the deal a '5% chance', saying that a deal won't be reached unless there is a drop in the forward's wage demands.
