Spanish press: Why Pedro decided to snub Manchester United for Chelsea

The Spanish media report it was Pedro's decision to snub Manchester United for Chelsea.

Manchester United have missed out on the signing of Pedro, after Spanish newspaper AS confirmed he flew to London to undergo a medical with Chelsea instead.

SkySports report the Red Devils dropped their interest in the Barcelona attacker prior to Chelsea making their move, but the Spanish media have a very different account of the situation.

Newspaper Sport report that it was Pedro himself who has decided against a move to Old Trafford, and has clear reasons for doing so.

Sport claim that Pedro was disillusioned with United manager Louis van Gaal's treatment of his pals, and former teammate Victor Valdes.

Valdes in particular, played alongside Pedro at Barcelona for many years, and he has been frozen out at United after falling out with the Dutchman.

The report states: "The public disagreements between Van Gaal and the former Barcelona keeper have made the Canary Islander change his mind over the coach.

"Pedro hasn't taken well to the Dutchman doubting the professionalism of Valdes, who was one of his best friends in the Barça dressing room."

AS report that Van Gaal's treatment of David de Gea was a further factor in his decision not to go to United.

Newspaper Mundo Deportivo looks at the move from a differing perspective, revealing that Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas spoke to Pedro and managed to convince him to join the Blues.
